The producer of Kruty 1918 says the rooms were not touched. The fireplace on screen is Viktor Yanukovych's fireplace, the armchairs are his armchairs, and Andriy Korniienko's list of what the production carried in comes to two items: the brandy glasses and the chess board.
Set decoration here mostly means taking things away. The filming record is eleven years deep and can be no deeper: until 21 February 2014 this was a private residence behind a five-metre fence where reporters were turned back at the gate. Everything shot here was shot after the owner left, and almost all of it casts the place as what it already was.
Servant of the People recorded a fictional president's New Year address in the room Yanukovych had used; the actor playing him, Volodymyr Zelensky, was elected to the office four years later. Forget and Remember gave the whole place to a schizophrenic oligarch, after what FILM.UA calls a long hesitation over shooting here at all. In Souvenir from Odesa the Honka, the log house at the centre of the estate, was a general's headquarters. Only one production made the estate something it had never been: in Cold Blood, Jean Reno's picture, it is an exclusive psychiatric clinic, with a small fake graveyard beside the drive.
Most of that comes from one piece of reporting, by Oleksandr Panchenko for the Kyiv outlet TyKyiv in April 2024, and for three of the titles it is the only account we found. He also names the RRR shot that four other accounts leave unnamed: the moment after the Naatu Naatu dance where one man carries the other, by the golf course. One source for it, and the park's own site says nothing about cinema at all.
Cinema was on this hill long before any of it. In 1933 and 1934 the surviving monastery buildings held a rest house, and Oleksandr Dovzhenko was among the people who stayed in it; the monastery was pulled down in 1935 and the ground closed for eighty years. Then in March 2014, with the gates open, three vintage cars found on the estate turned out to belong to the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio: pledged against a loan in 2009 with the rest of a twenty-seven-car fleet, taken by the bank when the studio defaulted, auctioned at about a tenth of their worth. Nothing joins the two facts except the ground they happened on.
